Therapists for college students near University of Texas at Austin
Many of the clients I work with feel weighed down by stress, anxiety, or life transitions. As someone raising two college-age children, I understand how change can bring both growth and uncertainty. Life often pulls us in many directions, and it can be hard to slow down and care for ourselves. Together, we take time to explore what feels heavy, build healthier ways to cope, and create a sense of balance, confidence, and peace.
Tell Us counseling is a therapeutic alliance where we create a safe space for you to discover, process, and heal your mental and emotional wounds when you TELL US your life journey. Healing starts now! My name is Romy and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Texas. I am here to support you towards healing and I am proud of you for taking this step. When times get tough, I can help you figure things out or simply help guide you in the right direction. I have over 12 years of experience working with clients who are in college, living with stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, relationship concerns, career challenges, self-esteem, domestic violence, sexual assault, intergenerational struggles, and other life challenges. As a Latina therapist, I understand firsthand the cultural pressures to always be the "fuerte" (strong) one, the responsible person of the family, and the constant cycle of people-pleasing at the expense of your own well-being. My therapy style is empowering, accepting, warm, and compassionate. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, strengths-based, DBT skills, problem solving, and motivational interviewing. No matter what issues you are facing, I will ensure that my therapeutic approach suits your unique needs. I work with young adults from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. I also have a passion in supporting the challenges BIPOC communities face. When we meet you can expect a safe space to explore any life challenges you are facing without judgment. Together, we will honor your roots while unpacking cultural expectations, setting healthy boundaries, and building practical coping skills to help you heal, reclaim your peace, thrive, and increase your overall satisfaction with yourself. I am currently accepting new clients and I look forward to meeting with you.

To me, therapy is about meeting you where you are at. We can 'sit in the suck' and commiserate but from there we will build up! This is a collaborative relationship; we are colleagues working towards the same goal. I won’t try to impress you with fancy medical jargon or bore you with a lecture. I am a simple person with humble beginnings. I started my career in healthcare at 17 years old as a CNA (Certified nursing assistant) working nights at a tiny rural hospital. I moved into the Chicago suburbs to continue my education but maintained my CNA certificate by working afternoons and nights at a long-term care facility. I graduated with my Master’s in Social work in 2016 from Aurora University. During my initial years as a social worker I worked in mental health case management and hospice. Two years later I received my Licensed Clinical Social Work for the state of Illinois. Not even a month later in 2019 I moved to North Texas where it took me several more year of training before I received my clinical licensure for Texas. During that time I took several different positions to gain a better understanding of all the kinds of work a social worker is capable of. Those positions were intensive outpatient for mental health and addictions, intake, utilization review for a psychiatric hospital and home health. After gaining clinical licensure in Texas, I concentrated my focus to one on one telehealth with adults while they navigate difficult life changes. When I am not working I enjoy cooking, hiking, competing in dog sports, and tending to my plants and home with my spouse, 7 dogs, and one very old rabbit. I volunteer with the local animal shelter working with animals at risk of euthanasia due to behavior issues or medical concerns and in rescue rehabilitating struggling pets. As a clinician I use aspects of cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy and am considered person centered. I regularly provide handouts, suggest videos, or give homework to encourage therapeutic thought and action outside of our sessions. I look forward to meeting you and being part of the healing chapter of your story!

People come to me when they are looking for ways out of being trapped, depressed, anxious or stuck. I work with individuals who don't know how to be their true selves - it is my mission them find ways to live an authentic and empowered life. I am able to hold a lot of complexity and nuance for a variety of human needs and experiences. Especially close to my heart is working with the LGBTQ+ population, or anyone who feels they don't fit into what society, parents, friends, or others expect of them. I also enjoy existential deep dives and those who feel overwhelmed by their emotional landscape. You are the expert on yourself - my role is to help you uncover who that self truly is, and help you to respond to that self with courage, connection and authenticity.
Hello! I’m a therapist in private practice, and I work best with students and young adults who feel like they’re carrying a lot on the inside while trying to keep up on the outside. Many of the clients who are a great fit for my practice are navigating anxiety, low mood, self-esteem struggles, emotional dysregulation, grief and loss, the impact of past painful experiences, and major life transitions (starting college, changing majors, moving away from home, new relationships). If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like you “should be doing better” but can’t seem to turn it around, you’re not alone. Students often reach out when they’re: • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly “on edge.” • Stuck in overthinking, perfectionism, or procrastination • Feeling down, numb, unmotivated, or like it’s hard to care about things you used to enjoy • Burned out from juggling school, work, family, or big life changes • Struggling with confidence, self-worth, or a harsh inner critic • Having trouble with relationships, boundaries, or communication • Trying to heal after a painful experience, or coping with grief and loss In our sessions, we’ll slow things down and make sense of what you’re feeling, what’s been happening, and what you want to change. My approach is flexible based on your needs, but I often use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns, understand how they affect your feelings and choices, and practice new ways of coping that fit your life. We’ll set clear goals, build practical skills you can use between sessions, and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe, especially if you’re working through trauma or loss. My style is warm, straightforward, and collaborative. You don’t need to know what to say or have a “perfect” reason to start therapy. If you’re looking for a space that feels supportive and real, where you can be honest, get tools that help, and feel more like yourself, I’d be glad to connect. We can start with what’s most urgent and go at a pace that feels manageable.
