Therapists for college students near Harvard University
Windhorse Counseling was born out of Alannah DiBona’s passion for transforming the lives of adolescents. After working within the high school system providing transitional support to students, Alannah realized that there were additional needs for her clients beyond what she could provide in the school setting. She built a practice centered on providing supplemental care in a comfortable, safe, and approachable environment. Windhorse Counseling has quickly grown to offer services to individuals, families, and couples from all walks of life. The presence of office dogs, namely Theo the Bloodhound and Milo the Golden Retriever enhances the home-like ambiance and provides therapeutic doses of humor and affection. Windhorse Counseling operates in the beautiful Damon Mill building with the goal of providing a living-room-like environment for clients of all ages to dig deep, connect, and begin the journey of healing. Located on the Assabet River with an abundance of natural greenery and forestry, the office setting is calming and serene. Clients find that the mindfully decorated indoor space and the quiet, natural surroundings set the stage for inner contemplation and interpersonal connection with our acclaimed and accomplished counselors. With the help of our hard-working office-dogs, clients are also able to loosen up, enjoy hilarious moments, and balance the deep work with lighter moments of pure joy and laughter.

I am a licensed mental health counselor. My goal is to support clients with their mental health as well as stress management, relationship issues, and finding the appropriate services. Therapy does not have to solely be for people in crisis. Being proactive with your mental health and attending therapy can have long-lasting benefits. My first goal when starting with a client is building rapport. In order for therapy to be effective, there needs to be a mutual trust between the client and therapist. I primarily use a cognitive behavioral and person centered approach to therapy. Although every session typically includes “talk therapy,” I also try to use a variety of interventions. I also have a therapy dog in my office who loves to cuddle on the couch with patients.
My strength as a psychologist is to deeply attend to each client's emotions, thoughts, and life context. If you seek to participate in therapy with me, we will work together to create a judgment-free and safe space. In my practice of therapy, I effectively balance exploratory and supportive therapy with the latest research and evidence-based interventions. I provide psychotherapy for older adolescents (16+), adults, older adults, college students, professionals, military-affiliated individuals, couples, and families. My advanced training includes a postdoctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital, with a clinical appointment at Harvard Medical School, and an APA-accredited internship at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Alongside my private practice, my professional experience includes teaching clinical psychology at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. I am happy to answer any questions you may have or set up an initial phone conversation to determine if we both think we might work well together to meet your goals. I currently have weekday daytime and limited evening availability. I also offer both in-person and telehealth (virtual) therapy. I look forward to hearing from you!
James Verdery is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Acton, MA. James works with children, adolescents, teenagers, and adults who struggle to manage their emotions and feel in control of their lives. His clients find themselves overwhelmed by feelings of anger, inadequacy, frustration, confusion, sadness, or loneliness. Clients learn tangible skills in emotional regulation and expression. They practice challenging assumptions, ignoring self-judgments, distraction and grounding exercises, and more. James tailors his treatment style to each client’s individual needs, personalities, and preferences for engaging, effective sessions. James earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. He is passionate about starting conversations about mental health at an early age. He strives to give clients the skills they need for a lifetime of healthy habits, including strong coping skills that allow individuals to feel meaning and joy in their lives.
