Acceptance can be a powerful experience that shapes who we are. Reflect on a moment when you felt truly accepted and how it impacted your journey. I’m passionate about helping clients of all identities live authentically and build a strong, empowered sense of self. My practice is inclusive of people from all walks of life. I provide LGBTQIA+ affirming care. You don’t need to educate me about your identity—I meet you where you are and work to honor your lived experience. I provide space that embraces all of who you are—my goal is to provide therapy that feels grounded, relational, and deeply affirming. Therapy with me is collaborative and nonjudgmental. I offer treatment for Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Grief, Life Challenges, Adjustment, Sleep, and many other major challenges people experience.

Victoria Duru is a board-certified nurse practitioner in psychiatry and family medicine who started her career as a young staff nurse over 15 years ago and worked her way up. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from Walden University in Minnesota, Minneapolis. After graduating she worked at a Correctional facility in Houston, TX. Her experience demonstrated the gap between medical and psychiatric care, and how the mind/body connection is often overlooked. The gap in care motivated Victoria to pursue a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certificate at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley so that she can develop a practice that integrates medicine and mental health for the most effective treatment.
Do you often get caught up in repetitive, self-defeating thoughts or find yourself stuck in the same painful feelings despite your best efforts to change? Do you struggle to cope with or to make sense of your inner experiences? I can help you develop skills that allow you to be grounded, responsive, and purposeful in your day-to-day life and gain a deeper understanding of your most authentic self. Common themes in my practice are life transitions, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, codependency, substance abuse, and stress management. I have over ten years of experience helping individuals achieve mental health and wellness. I use a holistic, trauma-informed approach that incorporates both body and mind. I blend somatic therapies, cognitive-based therapies, and mindfulness techniques into my practice to support whole-person healing and change. Above all, I recognize feeling connected to your therapist is essential to the depth of work required in therapy. I strive to create a safe therapeutic environment that enables you to feel seen, heard, and supported. I want you to feel confident in your decision when selecting a therapist. I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I obtained both my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Tyler. I have over 11 years of experience in nursing working in various fields and with a variety of patient populations. I have experience working with patients needing mental health services both inpatient and outpatient. I am dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with mental health concerns by increasing access to those needing mental health treatment while providing support, compassion, and understanding. I am here for the patient and want to ensure that all his or her needs are met. I have a passion for working in mental health services and genuinely care about each individual. I listen to his or her concerns and history to develop a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan with the patient. The patients preferences and needs will lead the treatment approach initially and going forward. I include the patient in all aspects of care. Listening to his or her concerns, symptoms, and history is an important starting point in developing a diagnosis. The diagnosis is thoroughly discussed with the patient and I will answer any questions that present. Following the diagnosis, a plan of care is developed with the patients input. Patient preferences for therapy, medication, or both, are included in the treatment plan, and any referrals necessary will be made. Medication, if necessary and agreed upon, will be called in to the patients preferred pharmacy and any remaining questions or concerns will be addressed. A follow-up visit to assess ongoing effectiveness of the treatment plan will be made. At consecutive appointments, any necessary changes to the treatment plan will be made. However, I am available for concerns, questions, or needs that may arise prior to follow-up visits when needed.

You’ve worked hard to get where you are. You’re successful, capable, and admired — yet inside you might feel anxious, overwhelmed, or like you’re barely holding it together. I often work with high-functioning students, student athletes, graduate students and new graduates and professionals who look put together on the outside but struggle with self-doubt, hidden stress, and emotions that feel out of control. You may be tired of carrying it all alone or feel like something has to change but don’t know where to start. I provide a grounded, supportive space where your experience is taken seriously and your goals matter. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep you feeling stuck and develop practical, personalized strategies that help you feel more confident, centered, and in charge of your life again. I help you strengthen internal resilience, deepen self-awareness, and build habits that align with the person you want to be. Many clients find greater clarity, calm, and self-trust as they learn to respond to life rather than just react. You can expect honest conversation, real support, and tools that actually work — so you can step into your strengths, lead with intention, and feel more fulfilled both personally and professionally.

Welcome! I work with people who may be struggling with a variety of different challenges from grieving the loss of a pet, struggling with thoughts of the future in a world that seems to be falling apart, and people struggling with gender identity and sexual orientation. I offer an LGBTQ and neurodivergent-affirming environment. While I pull from gold standard techniques such as EMDR, Brainspotting, ACT, DBT, and CBT-I to address a variety of issues and symptoms, I take a collaborative approach to tailor our work together to best fit your needs. I have over ten years of experience in the mental health field both as a researcher and as a psychotherapist. The first five years of my career was spent at the Montrose Center in Houston, Texas where I worked with the LGBTQ community as a psychotherapist and a case manager. This valuable experience urged me to take my career further by going into private practice where I am honored to work with members of the LGBTQ community as well as those outside it.
