As a therapist my very first priority is to ensure a safe environment free from judgment and filled with positive regard. Together we can explore varying perspectives and possibilities throughout your life experiences and the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors attached to those experiences. I hope to empower you to engage with life intentionally and with meaning and to care for yourself along the way. Sessions are meant to be your time to invest in yourself, and to learn. In counseling I use a responsive approach, meaning, we will use pieces of different counseling theories that will best fit your goals and needs. The concepts that I use most include theories surrounding CBT (cognitive behavioral theory), systems theory, interpersonal relationship models, neuroplasticity, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy. The space I cultivate is intended to be a laid back opportunity to find what works for you. With recognition that you know yourself and your experiences better than anyone else, that means you run the show at the end of the day. It is with this understanding that I mean to be an ally and resource on your path to knowledge and change.

Of all the relationships we have in our lives, I believe that the one you have with yourself is the most important and impactful. Therapy allows a person to create an authentic relationship with oneself. Through the therapeutic process, a person is able to find and access their own innate ability to heal and grow within a supportive, compassionate, and empowering environment. My passion for this work comes from seeing my clients evolve to feel happier and healthier in their daily lives. What I do: Individual Psychotherapy- I provide both in-person and telehealth treatment for teenagers, young adults, and adults, focusing a wide array of concerns including: life transitions, traumatic life experiences, daily functioning impairment, anxiety, and depression Gender and Sexuality Affirming Mental Health Care- I provide a safe space for those of you within the LGBTQIA+ community to process concerns unique to your own lived experiences Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)- EMDR is a research-backed treatment developed to help you heal following traumatic events by processing memories and gaining control over the way the trauma history impacts the mind and body. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- CBT is used to help you understand and learn skills to challenge unhelpful or maladaptive thinking and behavioral patterns Mindfulness- Mindfulness techniques are used to teach you how to relate to your thoughts differently and to live in the moment

Our experiences in this world, often based on identities or trauma, can leave us feeling stressed and uncertain. It's confusing to have your worries get in the way of making the connections with people that you long for; or to be so convinced you will fail that it's hard to take the first step in doing the next thing you want to do; or to be suddenly totally overwhelmed in the middle of this exciting new experience you'd been waiting for. Sometimes people need some help slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and finding new ways to respond so that they can move forward with hope, self-compassion, and empowerment. I have spent many years working in college mental health, helping students from all identities and backgrounds navigate the growth and challenge of the college experience. My approach is collaborative. Together we figure out what's getting in the way for you. I'll be with you in the hard moments, naming and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that you can find ways to respond to them that are helpful. Increased connection with your body is key. Let's also celebrate the wins, big and small, along the way. Finding a therapist that is a good fit is so important—if you're not comfortable enough to tell your therapist what's really going on, therapy won't work. Let's find a time to connect to see if I would be a good fit for you in your next step.

We can all benefit from gaining insights, learning skills, and having “tune ups” along the way. If you’re feeling stuck, struggling with how you feel about yourself or in relationship with someone, experiencing unwanted or intrusive thoughts or memories from a past experience, ruminating on negative thoughts or beliefs, or feeling anxious or depressive symptoms, you don’t have to walk through it alone! Our therapists use various counseling approaches that include evidence based treatments like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Because we are out of network, we can also get creative within our work with you. We’ll utilize appropriate techniques such as music or walk-and-talk therapy and can even take “field trips” with you if we deem it beneficial in your treatment (ie- restaurant outings, exposure therapy for certain phobias, home visits, etc.)

HI there, I'm Kristen, I've been working in mental health and addictions recovery for over 20 years. I enjoy working with people who are going through a transition, change, need extra support, or are dealing with on-going struggles. Some areas I specialize in include managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, bi-polar, past trauma, parenting struggles, pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders, relationship issues, coping with a loved one's mental health or addiction, and addictions recovery. My work focuses on paying attention to our current thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and patterns, questioning or challenging our unhelpful thinking and behaviors, and shifting focus to what is already working in our lives. Teaching and practicing coping skills, mindfulness, and relaxations skills have been a useful part of my practice. my style is pretty informal and relaxed, and I love working with college students

I specialize in relationship issues, breakups, and complex trauma processing, and I work with adult individuals and couples. Folks who struggle with boundaries, expressing needs, avoidance, anxiety, or managing conflict find our work rewarding. I'm especially passionate about supporting BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and highly sensitive folks. I help clients process distress, foster meaningful connections, and build resiliency. I’m a humanistic, strengths-based therapist, which means I believe that you already have what you need within you to thrive. We'll work together to heal past wounds and uncover the authentic self that lies beneath. I'm trauma-informed and attachment-oriented, and often use IFS and EFT interventions. I focus on creating experiences in session where you can connect to your body, emotions, and parts of yourself you’ve kept hidden, even from yourself. If you’re journeying as a couple, this may look like learning to connect in more vulnerable ways. Reaching out to a new therapist can feel daunting, and I get how important it is to find someone who feels right for you. I’m here to help you figure out what you really need and how we can make that happen together. I’m excited to meet you and help you find the trust, confidence, and peace of mind you deserve.

She received two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Spanish Language and Literature in 2020 followed by a Master of Arts in Counseling in 2024. At the heart of Lindsey's work is a deep belief in the inherent worth, dignity, and potential of every person. She approaches therapy with the understanding that healing begins in spaces where people are truly seen, witnessed, heard, and valued. Her practice is rooted in a person-centered philosophy that honors each individual's unique story, inner wisdom, and capacity for growth. Guided by principles of trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and social justice, she acknowledges the complex intersections of identity, culture, and systemic factors in mental health. Lindsey's areas of focus include trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, religious trauma/church hurt, women’s issues, self-esteem, body image, identity, life transitions, and relational conflict. She tailors her therapeutic approach to each client’s individual needs and goals, integrating elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Expressive Arts Therapy when supportive to the healing process. When working with children, Lindsey uses a Child-centered Play Therapy (CCPT) approach, creating a safe and supportive environment through which children can fully express themselves through play—their natural language. She respects and trusts in each child’s inner ability to grow and heal, and honors their pace, choices, and unique ways of making sense of the world. Outside of the counseling room, Lindsey enjoys spending time with family, entertaining her two cats, playing board games, building lego, bird-watching, reading a good book, doing something crafty, or grabbing a cup of coffee with friends. Lindsey recognizes the courage it takes to begin counseling and would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.

Counseling is like creating a work of art. It can be messy, beautiful, and transformative, but overall, it is a collaboration between client and therapist. I believe that you are the expert on your life and as such use a person-centered approach leaning into a balance of body, mind, and emotion. Doing so allows me to work with you to identify and reach specific goals, which assist in achieving well-being for emotional, physical and mental health. I enjoy working with a wide array of cultures and lifestyles. I currently offer telehealth sessions and see persons of all ages and backgrounds. I am trained in child and adolescent trauma, adult trauma, EMDR, human sexuality, grief, and somatic therapy, amongst other areas. I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina with a passion for helping young adults navigate life’s challenges. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Bowie State University and my Master’s in Counseling from Webster University. Since 1997, I’ve worked with adolescents, adults, and families across a range of settings, including outpatient and inpatient programs, schools, private practice, and the court system. I’ve also supported individuals in a substance use drug court program and worked with teens in day treatment and special education classrooms. I offer a space where you can be heard without judgment and supported in building the tools to manage your mental health, make empowered choices, and grow into the best version of yourself. My therapeutic style combines Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and DBT to meet your individual needs and goals.
