Therapists for college students near Chicago, IL
A lot of the students I work with look like they’re holding it together, but inside they feel overwhelmed. You might be lying in bed with your mind racing, replaying conversations, worrying about grades, or second guessing where you stand with friends, a roommate, or a partner. College transitions can make everything feel louder, with new expectations, new relationships, and sometimes pressure from back home. In therapy, we’ll slow things down, figure out what’s fueling the stress, and build tools you can use right away so you feel more grounded, more confident in your choices, and more like yourself.
At Emerge, a group of multi-national mental health professionals, we embrace and respect diversity and consider the intersectionality of identity in treatment. We provide holistic psychological and counseling services and empower you, through knowledge-based treatment, to understand, improve, and maintain your behavioral and mental health. Our practice provides mental health and therapy services to children, adolescents, adults, and couples. We are located in Chicago’s Loop, Lakeview, Uptown, and Ravenswood neighborhoods, and provide in-person and telehealth services.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure about your next steps, you’re not alone and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. College can bring a lot of pressure, transitions, and uncertainty, which can leave you feeling anxious, burned out, or disconnected. Therapy offers a supportive space to pause, gain clarity, and start making changes that feel meaningful and manageable. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with experience in hospitals, residential programs, private practice, and working with college students. I work with individuals navigating stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and challenges related to body image, disordered eating, and overall wellbeing. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and focused on helping you build practical tools while better understanding yourself.

I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems in adolescents and adults (ages 12 and up). In my work, therapy often focuses on dealing with stress related to academic demands, difficulties in peer and romantic relationships, family conflict, low self-esteem, as well as struggles with self-identity. I also work with young adults who feel overwhelmed during the transition to college or entering the work force for the first time. I draw on elements from empirically supported treatments such as CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I strive to offer an emphatic, non-judgmental approach to treatment. As a Latina, it is particularly important to me to serve my community and I welcome Spanish speaking clients.
Shu Hudson is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from North Park University. Shu thrives in providing a compassionate, client-centered space where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported in their healing journey. Shu has specialized training in yoga and mindfulness, that enables her to bring a somatic awareness to therapy, helping clients reconnect with their bodies as a source of wisdom, grounding, and emotional regulation. Shu focuses on navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, or life transitions, working collaboratively to explore underlying emotional truths, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, and fostering meaningful, sustainable change. Shu’s goal is to guide each client toward greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a more empowered relationship with themselves and others.

Much of the hurt and pain people experience is shaped in relationship with oneself or others, and yet healing can also occur through safe, supportive, and attuned connection. For this reason, I place a strong emphasis on building a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship over time. I approach mental wellness from a non-pathologizing lens and view therapy as a meaningful opportunity to deepen self-understanding. I am passionate about helping people process their lived experience, supporting them in reclaiming their narrative and reconnecting with parts of themselves that may feel burdened or unseen. My work is grounded in attachment-based theories and draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and strengths-based frameworks. I specialize in treatment of OCD, depression, interpersonal relationships, religious trauma, and women’s health. I am passionate about social justice and how social context impacts mental wellness. Coming from a large, multicultural family, I bring a deep respect for cultural diversity into my work and aim to help clients feel fully seen and valued in their identities. Through thoughtful exploration and warm collaboration, I am honored to accompany clients on their journey towards healing, growth, and reconnection with themselves.

Cira Center for Behavioral Health (CCBH) is a group practice that has a Team of Psychologists, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Doctoral Level Therapists, and Post Doctoral Fellows that serve the age and gender spectrum and specialize in Trauma and Women’s Issues/Health.. Therapy can be many things and is different for each person. Whether you are new to therapy or returning, my hope is to meet you where you’re at, explore what may feel stuck, painful, or challenging, and support you in living a life aligned with what is most important to you. Throughout my career I have really enjoyed working with college students and I know that this time of life can bring unique challenges, both in concerns that arise now and in reflecting on what has brought you to this point.
